Kibale National Park is one of the best places in Africa to see chimpanzees in the wild. The park is home to over 1,500 chimpanzees and many other primate species, earning it the name “The Primate Capital of the World.”
Chimpanzee trekking starts early in the morning with a short briefing from your guide. After that, you begin your walk through the thick, green forest. The trek can take 2 to 5 hours, depending on where the chimpanzees are that day.
When you finally find them, you get to watch how they live — climbing trees, grooming each other, playing, and calling loudly through the forest. It’s a truly special and exciting moment.
While trekking, you may also see red-tailed monkeys, colobus monkeys, and many colorful birds. The forest itself is beautiful and peaceful, with tall trees and cool, fresh air.
